Royal Flying Doctors Service (RFDS)

This is a photo of a RFDS flight simulator. A man came with a RFDS plane without the tail, wings and cockpit. He came to show us what the inside of a plane looks like and talk to us about what the RFDS does. In the simulator there was three seats, a bed and two head phones. when you went in it would make an engine noise just like a real plane.

Their mission is to help Australians in the outback fly to hospitals because of the distance between where they live and medical help. The RFDS has many full-time staff, such as pilots, doctors, nurses and cleaners, plus 296 part-time and casual staff.

  1. Great work on your blog Alannah – did you enjoy learning about the flying doctor service? I like the idea of a flying science teacher – i could fly all over Australia and do science experiments with students living on outback stations and small rural schools.
